The Opportunity:
We are seeking positive and enthusiastic Residential Care Workers to work in the local Bairnsdale areas who are looking for casual positions. In this role you will have the opportunity to contribute and make a real difference in the lives of children and young people who are living in Berry Street’s residential houses. Our passionate staff work across multiple houses in the Bairnsdale areas on a 24-hour roster, 7 days a week. Most shifts are 8 hours in length and day and afternoon shifts span the hours of 7am and 11pm, along with active night shifts.
Key responsibilities:
- Support Children and Young People who have been impacted by trauma in their lives and present with highly complex needs between the ages of 12 – 17.
- Collaborate with Berry Street professionals in the development of a Child or Young Persons education, living, social and recreational living plans.
- Implement current practices in therapeutic interventions for Children and Young People in care with regard to trauma and attachment.
- Maintaining administrative and progress note keeping requirements in accordance with Berry Street and program guidelines.
- Ensure the residential facility is clean and well maintained by undertaking general household tasks including shopping, cooking, maintenance and cleaning.
- Working to the Therapeutic Care Intervention (TCI) framework where required dependent on the Young Person’s needs.

About You:
- A Cert IV in Child, Youth & Family Intervention (Residential & OOHC), or other related discipline is desirable
- Excellent communication skills and ability to engage well with young people, staff and other professional bodies
- Ability to support Young People with complex needs from various developmental and cultural backgrounds
- Confidence and professional response to crisis situations working within policies, procedures, and risk management plans
- Prior youth work or residential care work experience will be highly regarded, but not essential

New Legislation for Residential Youth Houses
Please note as of January 1st, 2018 to be eligible to work in a Residential Youth House in Victoria you must have completed or be willing to complete the following Upskilling Units through Berry Streets. Successful applicants who have not completed the below Upskilling, Berry Street will enrolled you into the Upskilling Units.
CHCMHS007 – Work effectively in trauma informed care.
CHCPRT009 – Provide primary residential care.
CHCCCS009 – Facilitate responsible behaviour.
CHCPRT010 – Work with children and young people with complex trauma and attachment issues and needs.
*This was brought in by the Department of Health and Human Services and is now a requirement for all Youth Workers working in Residential Youth Housing.
