ABOUT US

  • Berry Street is Victoria’s largest independent child welfare organisation that never gives up doing whatever it takes for kids. We believe everyone should have a good childhood, growing up in families and communities where they feel safe, nurtured and have hope for the future.
  • The Home Based and Specialised Care Program primarily provides support for children and young people who are unable to live with their own families. Most children and young people are placed in out of home care following child protection intervention. The program also provides support for young people who are living either independently or with their families with the support of Targeted Care Packages. 

 

ABOUT THE ROLE

The role is casual. You will be responsible for supporting the Home Based and Specialised Care program to young people in care, or who are living independently or with their families with the support of a Targeted Care Package by any of the below:

  • Providing transport for the young people.
  • Providing care to young people within carers’ home for up to eight hours at a time
  • Providing practical assistance to young people and their families
  • Facilitating and supervising contact between young people and their families.

  

 

ABOUT YOU

  • You will have a commitment and passion for working with children, youth and families.
  • You will have a broad understanding of the issues facing those most vulnerable within our community
  • Show empathy for young people and their families in an open-minded and non-judgemental manner.
  • Have a strong capacity for emotional self-regulation in order to set and maintain boundaries.
  • Have demonstrated capacity to engage with children and young people who display challenging behaviour.
  • The ability to remain calm and think clearly in situations of crisis.
  • You would hold, or be eligible to hold a Working with Children’s Check.

 

REMUNERATION

  • The base salary for this position is SCHCADS Level 3, Pay Point 1 which is currently $28.4936 per hour plus a 25% casual loading under the Berry Street Victoria 2014-2017 Agreement.
  • The value of the salary can be increased through salary packaging.
